Best Travel Credit Card India (2026): 10 Picks Compared
13 October 2026

I have used credit cards for 20 years, and for the last 8 I have not paid for a flight, a hotel, a forex markup or a service fee because of how I use them. That is why I am comfortable telling you which card suits which traveller. Choosing the best travel credit card in India depends on how you travel, so I have ranked ten cards and been upfront about the catch with each.
Quick answer: the best travel credit card in India, ranked
| Rank | Card | Best for | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Axis Bank Atlas | Flexible airline and hotel miles | Rs 5,000 |
| 2 | HDFC Diners Club Black Metal | Unlimited lounges, frequent flyers | Rs 10,000 |
| 3 | HSBC TravelOne | Simple points transfer, mid-income travellers | Rs 4,999 |
| 4 | Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank | Hotel-stay loyalists | Rs 3,000 |
| 5 | Axis Bank Magnus | High spenders using Travel EDGE | Rs 12,500 |
| 6 | ICICI Emeralde Private Metal | Affluent flyers, unlimited lounges | Rs 12,499 |
| 7 | MakeMyTrip ICICI Bank | Occasional travellers, lowest forex | Rs 999 |

| 9 | IndusInd Tiger | Beginners wanting a free card | Rs 0 |
| 10 | Amex Platinum Travel | Steady spenders chasing milestones | Rs 5,000 |
- Atlas: the best all-rounder for flexible miles.
- Diners Black Metal: unlimited lounges without an Infinia-style invite barrier.
- TravelOne: easy points transfers at a lower income bar.
- Marriott Bonvoy: free nights for Marriott fans.
- Magnus: big rewards if you spend a lot.
- Emeralde: unlimited lounges and golf, at the top end.
- MakeMyTrip ICICI: the lowest forex markup here.
- Avios Visa Infinite: earns Avios directly.
- Tiger: the lifetime-free starter.
- Amex Platinum Travel: milestone rewards at a modest fee.
Not sure which of these fits you? Take the 2-minute quiz and get one card matched to your spending.
How to choose a travel card
Start with four things.
- Forex markup. This is the fee on foreign-currency spend. In this list it runs from 0.99% to 3.5%. If you travel abroad often, it matters a lot.
- Lounges. Count the visits you will realistically use, not the number printed on the brochure.
- Type of rewards. Airline miles, hotel points and flexible points suit different people. Flexible points keep you from being locked in.
- Fee against value. A Rs 12,500 card that returns more than that is cheaper than a free card that returns nothing.
I group fees into free, semi-paid (roughly Rs 1,000 to 5,000) and premium (Rs 10,000 and above). Beginners should usually start free or semi-paid and move up once their spending justifies it. If lounges are your main reason, see our guide to the best cards for lounge access.

The 10 best travel credit cards in India
1. Axis Bank Atlas
This is my top pick because it is airline-agnostic. You earn 5 EDGE Miles per Rs 100 on travel spends, and the miles transfer to airline and hotel partners. Lounge access is tiered (Silver, Gold, Platinum) as your spending grows. The fee is Rs 5,000 and the forex markup is 3.5%. Our estimate is an income of Rs 1.5 lakh a month or more. See the full details on the Axis Bank Atlas page.
Suits: frequent travellers who do not want one loyalty program. Drawback: 3.5% forex is high, so use it for miles, not for foreign swipes. Check the current earn rates and transfer ratios on Axis Bank's site.
2. HDFC Diners Club Black Metal
Unlimited domestic and international lounge access is the headline. You also get 10,000 bonus points each quarter at Rs 4 lakh spend, and forex is 2%. The fee is Rs 10,000, waived at Rs 8 lakh annual spend. Read more on the HDFC Diners Club Black Metal page.
Suits: people who fly several times a year and spend heavily. Drawback: our estimate puts eligibility at Rs 2.5 lakh a month, and reward caps and lounge terms have changed before, so verify them.
3. HSBC TravelOne
It earns 4 points per Rs 100 on flights, travel aggregators and forex spends, and 2 points per Rs 100 elsewhere with no cap. Points transfer instantly to airline miles and hotel points. The fee is Rs 4,999 (waived at Rs 8 lakh spend), forex is 3%, and our estimated income bar is Rs 50,000 a month. See HSBC TravelOne.
Suits: mid-income travellers who want something simple. Drawback: 3% forex is not cheap, and the extra 10,000 bonus points need Rs 12 lakh a year. Confirm lounge visit numbers with HSBC.
4. Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank
You get Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status, a welcome free night award, up to 4 more free night awards a year on spend, and 8 points per Rs 150 at Marriott properties. The fee is Rs 3,000 and forex is 3.5%.
Suits: hotel-stay loyalists. Drawback: the value is tied to Marriott, and the free nights need spend. Check lounge numbers and free-night terms on the bank page.
5. Axis Bank Magnus
Magnus gives 12 EDGE points per Rs 200 up to Rs 1.5 lakh of monthly spend and 35 above that, plus 5X through Travel EDGE and unlimited lounges. The fee is Rs 12,500, waived at Rs 25 lakh spend. Forex is 2%. Details are on the Axis Magnus page.
Suits: big spenders. Drawback: the reward structure and milestones were revised recently, and our estimate puts income at Rs 2 lakh a month. Check the current version.
6. ICICI Emeralde Private Metal
Unlimited domestic and international lounges, unlimited golf rounds, 6 points per Rs 200 on retail, and two EaseMyTrip vouchers (Rs 6,000) at Rs 8 lakh annual spend. Fee is Rs 12,499 and forex is 2%. See the ICICI Emeralde page.
Suits: affluent flyers. Drawback: it is invite-only, so most people cannot simply apply. Verify fee and benefits with the bank.
7. MakeMyTrip ICICI Bank
The forex markup is just 0.99%, the best on this list. You get up to 6% myCash on MakeMyTrip bookings, 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter, 1 international visit a year and a year of MMTBLACK Gold. The fee is Rs 999, waived at Rs 3 lakh spend. More on the MakeMyTrip ICICI page.
Suits: occasional travellers who book on MakeMyTrip. Drawback: the best rewards stay inside MakeMyTrip.
8. IndusInd Avios Visa Infinite
It earns 3 Avios per Rs 200 on regular spend and 5 on Qatar or British Airways bookings, with an 18,000 Avios milestone at Rs 8 lakh. The fee is Rs 5,000 (joining fee Rs 10,000), and forex is 3.5%, or 1.5% at a self-selected preferred destination. See IndusInd Avios.
Suits: international flyers collecting Avios. Drawback: one user reported a real USD 35 Priority Pass lounge fee despite the free-access marketing. Read the lounge terms carefully.
9. IndusInd Tiger
It is lifetime free, with 1.5% forex and lounge access that has no spend requirement. Rewards go up to 6 points per Rs 100 above Rs 5 lakh annual spend, and you get a golf game or lesson each quarter and a Rs 500 BookMyShow credit every six months. Our estimated income bar is only Rs 20,000 a month. See IndusInd Tiger.
Suits: beginners who do not want to pay a fee. Drawback: one user found it hard to locate among IndusInd's application options, so confirm it still accepts new applications.
10. American Express Platinum Travel
The fee is Rs 5,000 (joining fee Rs 5,000). You get 7,500 points at Rs 1.9 lakh spend, 10,000 more at Rs 4 lakh, and a Rs 10,000 welcome gift in Platinum Travel Collection points. Our estimated income bar is Rs 50,000 a month.
Suits: steady spenders who will hit the milestones. Drawback: forex is 3.5%, and the international lounge benefit is vague in the official terms. Check the details with American Express.

Which card matches your travel style
- Beginner or first-time card holder: start with IndusInd Tiger (free) or MakeMyTrip ICICI (Rs 999).
- Occasional traveller: MakeMyTrip ICICI if you book there, or HSBC TravelOne for flexible points.
- Salaried professional on a mid income: HSBC TravelOne or Axis Atlas, depending on your income.
- Frequent flyer: Axis Atlas first, then HDFC Diners Black Metal if you spend enough.
- Hotel loyalist: Marriott Bonvoy HDFC.
- International traveller: MakeMyTrip ICICI for the lowest forex, or IndusInd Avios if you want Avios.
- High spender: Axis Magnus, Diners Black Metal or ICICI Emeralde.
- Student or low income: start free. See our student card guide.
One card rarely does everything. A two-card setup, such as a miles card plus a low-forex card for abroad, often works best. If you are not travelling much yet, the best credit cards overall may suit you better. Or just find the card made for you.
Mistakes to avoid
- Paying forex fees you could avoid. Use a low-markup card abroad rather than a high-markup miles card.
- Ignoring milestones. Many fee waivers and bonuses need a spend target. Do not overspend just to hit one.
- Chasing lounges you will not use. Unlimited access is wasted if you fly twice a year.
- Missing devaluation notices. Banks change reward terms, so read their emails.
