Best Rewards Credit Card in India (2026): 7 Top Picks

I have been using credit cards for two decades now. For the last eight of those, I have not paid for a single flight, hotel stay, forex markup or service fee. That did not happen because I have a secret hack. It happened because I matched my spending to the right reward card — and I insist you do the same before applying for any best rewards credit card.

There is no single best card. There is only the best card for your spending. Below I have ranked the top seven reward cards in India for 2026, based on my experience and what my readers have told me over the years. If you want a quick, personalised answer instead, take the 2-minute quiz.

Top 7 Rewards Credit Cards at a Glance

Short summary: Infinia is the king if you spend enough to justify it. Atlas is the best pure travel card. Regalia Gold balances luxury and practicality. SBI Cashback is the simplest reward — just cash. PaisaSave is the best free option. Tata Neu Infinity pays you to live inside the Tata universe.

What Makes a Rewards Credit Card Worth It?

Before we dive into the cards, a quick word on what "rewards" actually means. A reward card can give you points, cashback, or a mix of both. Points accumulate in a bank or card network's loyalty program. Cashback is a direct percentage of your spend returned as a statement credit or bank deposit.

Points are only as good as what you can redeem them for. The best reward cards let you transfer points to airline and hotel partners, or give you a high value per point on travel bookings. Cashback is simpler but often capped. There is no right answer — only what fits your life.

And the golden rule: a reward card is only worth it if you use it where you already spend. Do not change your spending to earn rewards. That is how people get into debt. Compare these cards side by side to see which one lines up with your monthly bills.

Best Overall Rewards Card: HDFC Infinia

The HDFC Bank Infinia Credit Card is my top pick for one reason: it gives you the highest base reward rate in India outside of super-premium cards. You earn 3.33% back on every rupee, and that jumps to 33.33% when you book flights or hotels through HDFC SmartBuy. That is not a typo. Every ₹100 you spend on SmartBuy gets you ₹33 worth of points.

But the card is invite-only. HDFC offers it only to high-income customers with excellent credit history. If you have it, you know. If you have to ask, you probably cannot get it right now. The annual fee is ₹12,500, but it is waived if you spend ₹10 lakh in a year. That sounds steep, but Infinia users typically spend ₹3-5 lakh a month.

What makes it worth it? Unlimited airport lounge access for you and your family, complimentary memberships to hotel programs, and a forex markup of just 2%. I have used my Infinia to enter lounges in five countries. That alone has saved me over ₹50,000 in the last three years.

The honest drawback: eligibility is brutal. You need an income of around ₹3 lakh per month and a CIBIL score of 800+. There is no online apply button. If you meet the numbers, ask your relationship manager. If not, look at cards #2 or #3 on this list. See the full HDFC Infinia review for all details.

Best for Travel Rewards: Axis Atlas

The Axis Bank Atlas Credit Card is my go-to when someone says, "I want a travel card but I do not want to be tied to one airline." It earns 5 EDGE Miles per ₹100 on all travel spends — that includes flights, hotels, and even travel aggregators. On everything else, you get 2 EDGE Miles per ₹100. No other card in this fee range matches that.

The magic is in the transfer. Axis lets you move EDGE Miles to multiple airline and hotel loyalty programs at a 1:2 ratio. So 10,000 EDGE Miles become 20,000 airline miles. I have transferred to hotel programs and gotten free nights worth ₹20,000 from a few months of regular spending. That is real value.

You also get tiered lounge access based on your spending, and milestone benefits when you hit specific thresholds. The annual fee is ₹5,000, which is half of Infinia. The forex markup is 3.5%, so I would not use this card abroad, but for domestic travel bookings it is excellent.

The one thing to note: Axis sometimes changes transfer partners or ratios with a month's notice. Always check the current list on the Axis Bank website before you plan a redemption. Read the Axis Atlas card details to see the full partner list.

Best Mid-Range Rewards Card: HDFC Regalia Gold

If you want a taste of the premium lifestyle without paying a premium fee, the HDFC Bank Regalia Gold Credit Card is my pick. It costs ₹2,500 a year, and that is waived if you spend ₹4 lakh. In return, you get lounge access (12 domestic + 6 international visits), complimentary Club Vistara Silver membership, and MMT Black Elite membership.

The reward structure is decent for a mid-range card. You earn 4 reward points per ₹150 on regular spends, and 5x points on select brands like Myntra, Nykaa, and Reliance Digital. There are also milestone vouchers — you can get flight vouchers worth up to ₹10,000 a year. For a frequent flyer on a budget, that is a solid return.

The low forex markup of 2% is a big plus. I used this card in Dubai and saved about ₹1,200 in markup fees on a single hotel booking compared to my older card. The downside? It is not as rewarding as Infinia on base spends, and the accelerated rewards only apply to a few brands. But for ₹2,500, it punches above its weight. See more on the Regalia Gold card page.

Best Cashback as Rewards: Cashback SBI Card

Sometimes the best reward is cash in your hand. The Cashback SBI Card is the simplest reward card in India: 5% cashback on all online spends, 1% on offline spends, and no merchant restrictions. Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Myntra, local pharmacy websites — all get 5% back. The cashback is credited directly to your card account every month. No points, no redemption portal, no headache.

The annual fee is ₹999, but it is waived if you spend ₹2 lakh in a year. That is the lowest spend waiver on this list. The card is perfect for someone who does most of their shopping online and hates tracking points. You can read my detailed guide on the best SBI cards for online shopping to see how it compares.

The catch? Cashback is capped at ₹5,000 per billing cycle. That sounds like a lot, but if you spend ₹2-3 lakh online in a month, you will hit the cap in two weeks. Also, the cashback does not apply to fuel, wallet loads, or rent payments. For a heavy spender, a points card with a higher ceiling might be better. But for most Indian households, this is the easiest way to earn real value. Find the card made for you if you are still unsure.

Best Low-Fee Rewards Card: YES BANK PaisaSave

Not everyone wants to pay an annual fee. The YES BANK PaisaSave Credit Card is free for life, and it still gives you useful category rewards: 6% cashback on dining and travel spends, and 1% on other categories including UPI. For a card that costs nothing to keep, that is surprisingly generous.

I recommend this to first-time cardholders and students. The eligibility is easy — an income of ₹20,000 a month and a CIBIL of 650+ will usually get you approved. The redemption is straightforward: you can redeem cashback at a 1:1 ratio, meaning every 100 points equals ₹100. No complex transfer ratios or blackout dates.

The downside is the low cap on category cashback and the modest 1% on everything else. If you dine out twice a month, the 6% is nice but not life-changing. And YES BANK's customer service can be patchy. But as a starter card to build credit while earning a bit of cash back, it is the best free option I have seen. See the PaisaSave card details for the full terms.

Best for Tata Brand Fans: Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Card

If your life runs on Tata brands — BigBasket, Croma, Air India, Westside, Tata 1mg — then the Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Credit Card is a no-brainer. You earn 5% back as NeuCoins on every purchase through the Tata Neu app or partner brands, and 1.5% on everything else. NeuCoins can be used like cash across the Tata Neu ecosystem, making redemption simple.

What I like most is the lounge access. Unlike some mid-tier cards that require a minimum spend every quarter to unlock lounge visits, the Infinity card gives you domestic and international lounge access with no spend conditions. For a fee of ₹1,499, that is excellent value. The fee is waived on spending ₹3 lakh a year.

Make sure you get the RuPay variant, because then you can link it to UPI and earn rewards on every UPI transaction. That is rare. The drawback is that if you do not shop at Tata brands, the 1.5% return is mediocre. This is a loyalty card first and a general card second. Take our quick quiz to find the one card that fits you if you are not sure this is right.

Which Card for Which Profile?

Still confused? Here is my honest take on who should get which card.

  • High-income traveller (₹3L+ per month): HDFC Infinia, if you get the invite. If not, Axis Atlas is the next best.
  • Frequent domestic flyer on a mid budget: HDFC Regalia Gold — lounge access and milestone vouchers cover the fee.
  • Online shopaholic who hates points: Cashback SBI Card — 5% cash back, no thinking required.
  • Student or first card: YES BANK PaisaSave — free, easy to get, and builds credit history.
  • Tata ecosystem user: Tata Neu Infinity — 5% back on brands you already buy.
  • UPI spender: Tata Neu Infinity RuPay variant or YES BANK PaisaSave — both link to UPI and earn rewards.

How to Pick the Right Rewards Card

Here is my simple three-step process, the same one I use with friends who ask me for advice.

  1. Write down your last three months of spending by category: rent, groceries, online shopping, travel, dining, fuel, utilities. Be honest.
  2. Match the categories to the card rewards. If you spend ₹20,000 a month on Flipkart, a card with 5% cashback is better than one with lounge access you will never use.
  3. Check the fee math. A card with a ₹2,500 fee is worth it if your rewards exceed that by at least 2x. Otherwise you are paying for prestige, not value.

This is exactly what our quiz does, but faster. Answer 8 questions about your spending and it will tell you the one card that fits — no guessing, no pushy sales.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which credit card gives the best reward points in India?

The HDFC Infinia gives the highest base reward rate at 3.33%, but it is invite-only. The Axis Atlas is the best openly available points card for travel, with 5 EDGE Miles per ₹100.

Are reward credit cards better than cashback credit cards?

It depends on how you spend and whether you redeem points for travel. Cashback is simpler and has fewer caps, but points can give you much higher value if you transfer to airline or hotel partners. See best lifetime free credit cards for zero-fee options.

Can I get a good rewards card with no annual fee?

Yes, the YES BANK PaisaSave Card is free and gives 6% on dining and travel. You can also look at lifetime free RuPay cards for UPI rewards.

How do I redeem reward points for maximum value?

Transfer them to airline or hotel partners instead of redeeming for vouchers or statement credit. That often gives 2-3x more value. If you travel internationally, check out zero forex markup cards to pair with your rewards card.

Do rewards credit cards have hidden charges?

Not if you read the terms. Watch for redemption fees, expiration dates on points, and forex markup if you use the card abroad. Fee waivers also depend on meeting spend thresholds. Always confirm on the bank's website before applying.

Also remember that fees and benefits change often. What I have written here is accurate as of early 2026, but banks tweak their terms. Always confirm the latest details on the bank's official website before you apply.
